FACULTY OF LIBERAL STUDIES
ACADEMIC WRITING W/ ESL SPECIALITY
The Faculty of Liberal Studies invites applications for a full-time, limited-term (1-3 years) contract for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Liberal Studies with a focus on teaching English as a Second Language and Academic Writing. Experience developing and implementing writing pedagogy in Fine Art and other Liberal Studies disciplines would be an asset. This position is to commence with the 2008/09 academic year, subject to budgetary approval.
This position includes the following responsibilities: providing leadership in the ongoing development of entry-level academic writing classes, coordinating the delivery of first-year writing courses and overseeing OCAD’s “English for Art and Design” program, as well as establishing ESL support for a range of academic disciplines (tutorials, etc.) at the 100 and 200-level. The position requires coordination with programming offered through OCAD’s Writing & Learning Centre.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach at all undergraduate levels, including first year courses, to maintain an active research profile, to contribute to the ongoing development of the undergraduate curriculum as well as graduate programs, and to participate in the usual Faculty and university-wide governance system, as well as other activities that contribute to the academic life of OCAD.
Candidates are expected to have a completed PhD or degree equivalent in English Writing or Rhetoric, or another relevant field; a strong record of research, scholarship, and publication; at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience; excellent organizational and intercommunication skills; and an aptitude for innovative curriculum development in a degree-granting art and design institution.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, with access to full benefits and pension contribution after one year of service.
